Australia vs Greece Predictions
Australia left it extraordinarily late on Saturday when they lined up against Greece in Sydney. They were by far the most dominant side and enjoyed a lot of possession but failed to produce anything in front of goal for over 90 minutes. They had a disallowed goal late on before forward Matthew Leckie netted with almost the last kick of the game three minutes into injury time.
This saw them bounce back from their defeat to England a week before and made it five wins and one defeat in their last six matches. They will be hoping to improve on their strike rate though and achieve a more comfortable victory when they meet in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Generally they have been very composed in front of goal though. That 93rd minute winner made it six games in a row that they have scored in, and games against lesser opposition in the World Cup Qualifiers mean that they have now scored 21 goals in their last six games.
Greece have never been the best side going forward, but their defence faltered far too often in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and left them rock bottom of their group with just six points from their ten matches.
They haven’t made many improvements since then either. They have lost three of their five friendlies since the end of qualifying and have only won two of their last 18 matches. Away from home it’s even worse for them, they have lost three of their last four trips away and haven’t won since the middle of 2013.
Australia may have left it late on Saturday but they were by far the better team in Sydney, and I would expect them to be the better side again on Tuesday. Odds of 19/20 for an Australia Win look good value to me, and I’m backing a 2-0 correct score prediction this time at 7/1.
