Leicester City vs Southampton Predictions
- Southampton have conceded twice in 21 of their last 25 away trips
- The Saints have shipped at least two goals in their last eight league matches
- Leicester have scored twice in both games this season and they beat Saints 4-1 in May
- Maddison has scored five times in his last six league games
Saints out of shape
Southampton have won just one of their last 14 Premier League games (D3 L10) ahead of this visit to the King Power. The visitors fought back to draw 2-2 with Leeds last weekend and they’ll be hoping that is the spark which gets their season up and running, but their away form is a worry.
Away from home, Saints are winless in eight league games (D3 L5) and they were beaten 10 times on the road. They finished last season with a 4-1 hammering at Leicester, having failed to win in four clashes with the Foxes.
Leicester suffering early on
The hosts have yet to win this season, shipping six goals in a calamitous opening to the campaign. Leicester threw away a 2-0 lead at home to Brentford in their opener before losing at Arsenal last week.
The hosts have made no major signings this summer and the defensive worries which plagued last term haven’t gone away. While Brendan Rodgers’ side have plenty of talent, they are in need of a boost to get their campaign up and running.
The hosts should look to James Maddison to make the difference for them. The Newcastle target has either scored or assisted a goal in each of his last six Premier League appearances, finding the net five times. Since the start of last term, no English midfielder has been involved in more goals in the Premier League than Maddison. Back him to notch on Saturday.
Back against Leaky Saints defence
Leicester have defensive issues, but they’ve at least scored twice in both of their games. The hosts are set to welcome back Harvey Barnes in this one, which should give them a boost up front and allow them to revert to a 4-3-3.
Expect the Foxes to cause problems for Southampton here, as the hosts have conceded at least twice in each of their last eight matches. They’ve also shipped two goals or more in 21 of their last 25 away league games, so Leicester look good for a couple of goals here.
Back the hosts to score at least twice this weekend, given that they scored six times across two meetings with the Saints last term. On top of that, I’m backing Leicester for a 2-1 victory given that they won 10 of 19 home matches last season.
