Tip Reasoning

  • Middlesbrough have lost just one of their opening five Championship games (W1, D3).
  • Coventry have won three of their first five matches, but those victories came against teams currently in the bottom four.
  • Boro won both league meetings between the sides last term.

Sky Blues’ early results overestimated

Coventry City have won three of their first five games, but that form doesn’t amount to much, and The Sky Blues look best opposed when they entertain a Middlesbrough side that have lost just once so far this term.

The bookmakers have installed City as favourites at a shade of odds-against for this clash, and the league table suggests that the seventh placed Sky Blues have made a healthy start to the campaign with nine points on the board from a possible 15.

But it’s important to note that Coventry’s three wins thus far have been against Reading, Nottingham Forest and Blackpool, who are all currently in the bottom four.

Mark Robins’ men have otherwise been beaten to nil against stronger opposition in the shape of Barnsley and QPR, and a similar outcome could follow this Saturday against a solid Middlesbrough outfit who won both league meetings between the pair last season.

Neil Warnock’s men have lost just one of their opening five starts with QPR running out 2-3 winners in a thriller at the Riverside Stadium, but their other results have been encouraging.

Boro have just one victory which came at home to Bristol City, though their best performance came at Craven Cottage when holding Fulham to a 1-1 draw. Boro so far remain the only side to have snatched a point from the joint leaders and promotion favourites.

In summary, the visitors should be supported here in the double chance market and the 4/6 available is generous. The added insurance of the double result makes sense considering Boro have only banked one win in five, but we think they’ll add to that tally at the Coventry Building Society Arena where we’re forecasting a 0-1 correct score.
