Barnsley vs Blackpool Predictions

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in 12 of Barnsley’s last 13 home league contests.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in 11 of Blackpool’s last 14 Championship away matches.
  • Barnsley sacked manager Poya Asbaghi on Saturday with Under-23 boss Martin Devaney set to take over for the rest of the season.

Barnsley bite the bullet and sack Asbaghi

Don’t expect to see many goals at Oakwell on Tuesday night when mid-table Blackpool go in search of their second away win since October against relegated and managerless Barnsley. Barnsley bit the bullet on Saturday and sacked Poya Asbaghi after a five-month spell in which the Tykes won just three league games and couldn’t drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

Martin Devaney, who has overseen a run of one win in nine of the club’s under-23 side, is taking charge of the senior set-up for the rest of the season, but is unlikely to be the permanent choice. Neither Devaney’s record or part-time position makes us like Barnsley to win this at around 9/5.

Blackpool have been nowhere near as good on their travels as they have been at Bloomfield Road – where attendances have been rising on the back of some sparkling displays – scoring just four goals on their last five road trips.

Blackpool becoming a defensive force

But Neil Critchley’s side have tightened up considerably across the last phase of the season with only six clubs having conceded fewer away goals across the last eight games, leading us to conclude taking unders on the goals ought to be profitable.

Fewer than three goals have been scored in 12 of Barnsley’s last 13 home league contests and in just 11 of Blackpool’s last 14 Championship away matches. A 1-1 draw seems the most likely outcome here given three of Barnsley’s last five home encounters and two of Blackpool’s last three away games have finished that way.
