- Sweden have gone 11 games without a clean sheet
- Tunisia have conceded in seven of their last nine games
Potter’s Sweden looking for perfect start
Sweden and Tunisia have been drawn in what could potentially be a highly competitive World Cup 2026 Group F but both are heading into the tournament in poor form.
The Netherlands and Japan complete this batch of four, meaning a defeat for either side in this opener could prove incredibly costly.
Sweden endured a nightmare qualification campaign where they failed to win a single game in the group phase. Their Nations League exploits earned them a play-off spot, however, and they overcame Ukraine and Poland to reach the showpiece after hiring Graham Potter to replace Jon Dahl Tomasson as head coach.
Since then, Sweden have a defeat and a draw from two friendlies meaning they have won just two of their last 10 games.
Tunisia are also out of sorts and they concluded their warm-up bid with a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Belgium. The Eagles of Carthage have won just one of their last seven games and have gone three without scoring, but they can at least end their goal drought against the Swedes.
The European outfit are the favourites to win but the better betting angle looks to be backing both teams to score as goals at both ends has been a regular occurrence in Sweden’s games.
Both teams have scored in each of Sweden’s last six games and they have gone 11 without a clean sheet, shipping 23 goals in total during that run.
Tunisia may have gone three games without scoring but they are coming up against a suspect defence and they know they probably have to get something out of this game to stand a realistic chance of progress, so they should show more attacking intent than they have demonstrated in recent friendlies.
A Tunisia goal is expected but that may be as good as it gets for the North African side and a 2-1 Sweden win is the correct score pick. Sweden have scored at least twice in three of their last four games and with Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres in attack they should have enough firepower to outgun Tunisia.
Both of Sweden’s star strikers will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet and Gyokeres is the preferred option after his effort in the draw with Greece in their final warm-up game.
