Barnsley Backed to Edge South Yorkshire Showdown

Barnsley should be backed to beat Rotherham in the South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell on Saturday. The visitors have lost seven times on their last nine away days in League One.

They are six places and four points ahead of Rotherham. 

The hosts, who are tenth with five wins, three draws and three defeats from their 11 games, have won four of the last five meetings between the two sides.

The home team are in goalscoring form. Barnsley have scored three or more goals in four of their 11 League One games this season, and they have averaged two goals a game in their three home matches against bottom-half teams.

The visitors have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just four goals in six games – an average of 0.67 goals a game on the road.

Rotherham’s defence has been far from watertight of late. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 19 League One games, and are now on a run of nine away days without recording a shutout.

Barnsley were 1-0 winners against Rotherham last time they met in League One and, with five of Rotherham’s six defeats in the division coming by the odd goal, a narrow win for the hosts looks a decent correct-score pick.
