Basel vs Slovan Bratislava Predictions
- Basel have won five of their seven European home games this season
- Both teams have scored in Slovan’s last eight away games in all competitions
- On-loan Brighton forward Andi Zeqiri has scored four in eight Europa Conference League matches this season
Basel back with a bang
These two teams are meeting for the third time in the Europa Conference League this season with Basel seeking a first win over a Slovan side playing their first European knockout tie in 54 years.
Slovan got the better of Basel when they visited St Jakob-Park last October during a difficult first half of the season for the RotBlau.
Results did slowly start to improve for the 20-time Swiss champions, who impressively saw off Trabzonspor in the Europa Conference League playoff round, part of a run of four wins in their last six matches in all competitions.
A boost in output from striker Andi Zeqiri has aided Basel’s revival and the Brighton loanee looks a solid bet to make it six goals in his last 11 appearances against a Slovan side without a clean sheet in the last eight away games.
Slovan firepower an issue for Basel
Zeqiri was also on the scoresheet when the two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Bratislava, and more goals are expected when they reconvene.
Slovan have scored at least twice in their last four outings in the Conference League and head into this last-16 first-leg fresh from scoring four at the weekend in their domestic Fortuna Liga.
Aleksandar Cavric scored in both meetings against Basel in the group stages for Slovan, although any efforts from the Slovak’s topscorer this time could be in vain with a slight preference for Basel to claim a first-leg advantage.
