Bastia vs Nice Predictions
Bastia’s return to action following the winter break took another blow on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at Nantes. This followed on from a 7-0 demolition at PSG which sent them out of the Coupe de France, and they have now lost four of their last six games in all competitions.
The other two of these have been victories, but the 7-0 hammering at PSG and a 5-0 thrashing away to Monaco carry serious concerns with them. They have only won two of their last 14 matches in all competitions as well.
This puts Bastia is a perilous position in the Ligue 1 table. They lie 17th, only outside the drop zone on goal difference and just two points above bottom of the table Metz. If they don’t turn this form around soon they could well find themselves in serious trouble.
Nice put in a stellar display in the first half of the season to take themselves to a surprising summit of the Ligue 1 table. Recently they have let themselves down though, and a drab goalless draw at home to bottom of the table Metz on Sunday made it one win, three draws, and two defeats in their last six games.
They are still well in the title race, but those dropped points allowed Monaco to leapfrog them into top spot at the weekend, although they only trail on goal difference. PSG are now just three points behind them too, so they have to break this duck in form soon.
Nice’s problem recently has simply been a lack of that cutting edge up front. It doesn’t help that they are rife with injuries and have Mario Balotelli suspended for this one, but they should still have scored more than their three goals in the last four matches.
Away from home it’s no better, and just two of their nine away days in Ligue 1 have seen three or more goals. Bastia are a low scoring side as well though, with just three of their 11 home games in all competitions this season seeing three or more goals. This, along with the drab attacking efforts by both teams at the weekend, make odds of 4/6 for Under 2.5 Goals look very good value. I’m backing that along with a goalless draw at 15/2 for my correct score predictions.
