      Tip Reasoning

hosts were involved in plenty of goalfests in last year’s competition although unfortunately for them almost all the goals were at the wrong end as far as they were concerned. They did though pick up a surprise 2-1 win at home to La Liga opposition in the shape of Athletic Bilbao but they lost all their other games and finished with a staggeringly bad goal difference of -22.

12 months on and they look a slightly improved outfit and once again they produced, almost out of nowhere, a blistering spell against Roma last time out where they went 3-0 up inside half an hour. They managed to see off a late Italian fightback to hold on for a 3-2 win and they clearly have it in them to cause a surprise or two.

They also scored in Leverkusen in their opening game and against a Barcelona defence that is far from convincing they will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet here.

Barcelona were 5-2 winners at the weekend against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga but the scoreline didn’t quite tell the whole story. Almost unbelievably Rayo out-passed the pass masters becoming the first team in 2 years to have more possession against Barcelona. They could have had more than 2 goals as well but ran into a red-hot Neymar who netted 4 times for the Catalans.

Both teams have scored in all of Barcelona’s last 8 matches in all competitions and they’ve not not made an entirely convincing start to their defence of this competition but have 4 points from a 1-1 draw with Roma and a late 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Therefore at 10/11 there looks to be plenty of reason to back both teams to score in this game. Even without the injured Leo Messi, Barcelona should create plenty of openings against a BATE Borisov side who aren’t exactly masters of the art of defending.

Attacking is often the best form of defence for the hosts and it should lead to an open game here so for big potential returns consider backing Barcelona to win 4-2 at huge odds of 40/1.
