Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Bayern Munich won 21 out of 22 competitive fixtures in 2020 so far
  • Bayern notched 31 goals in 10 home matches since January 1.
  • Bayern beat Chelsea 3-0 in the teams’ first leg meeting in February.
  • Bayern scored three or more goals in 28 separate games already this season.

Bayern Munich looking formidable

German giants Bayern Munich remain one of the favourites to lift the Champions League trophy this season – and with good reason.

The brilliant Bavarians have enjoyed a phenomenally consistent 2020 so far, winning an incredible 21 of the 22 fixtures they have played across three competitions since January 1.

With their victories piling up, Bayern coasted to another Bundesliga title, finishing 13 points clear of Borussia Dortmund, notching an eye-watering 100 goals in 34 games along the way, while their resounding 4-2 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen early last month also allowed them to lift the DFB-Pokal trophy for the second year on the bounce.

On the continent, Bayern have been matching their domestic exploits with equal explosiveness. Der FCB carry a 100% winning record from seven games into their Last 16 second leg this week, and having battered Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in a men against boys performance in February, the German champions are huge favourites to coast past the Blues again in Saturday’s return fixture.

Miracle in Munich beyond Chelsea

With the score at 3-0 in favour of the hosts ahead of Saturday’s second leg, Chelsea will already know that the second part of their double-header with Bayern is little more than an exercise in experience.

Having secured a top four Premier League finish in his first season in charge, Frank Lampard will be satisfied with his work during his maiden campaign as Blues boss, though Chelsea’s 2-1 FA Cup Final defeat to Arsenal and their impending Champions League exit means the club will end the campaign on a sour note.

Chelsea have found Europe’s elite club competition tough going this season, winning just three of their seven matches in the tournament overall, and their humbling loss at home to Bayern in February was a stark reminder of the kind of quality needed to be one of the continent’s best.

Goals anticipated at the Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich, who rattled home 31 goals in the 10 home matches they’ve contested so far in 2020, proved too powerful a force for Chelsea to resist when the teams locked horns in London in February – and another comfortable FCB victory is anticipated in Saturday’s rematch.

Even with a full complement of players, Chelsea’s task would have been tough, however, with the personnel issues Frank Lampard has to contend with this week, the Blues face mission impossible in Bavaria.

Lampard will be without the injured César Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic, Pedro, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour for Saturday, while key pair Marcos Alonso and Jorginho are also absent through suspension.

Against a severely weakened Chelsea outfit, Bayern Munich – who scored three or more goals in a phenomenal 28 separate matches already this season – should really enjoy themselves in Saturday’s second leg, and with that considered, the over 2.5 Bayern goals market looks attractive at the prices available.

In terms of our correct score forecast, another 3-0 Bayern Munich win is favoured. The Bavarians conceded just one goal and kept two clean sheets in the three Champions League home assignments they’ve navigated so far this term, and having plundered three goals in February’s first leg, a similar margin of victory against Chelsea is anticipated at the Allianz Arena.
