Mighty Mainz can strike

Mainz were dumped out of the German Cup when losing 2-0 at Bundesliga Two on Tuesday and that made it three defeats in four games for Urs Fischer’s men. 

The 05ers were beaten 3-2 at home by Werder Bremen in their most recent Bundesliga tie last weekend, and while that was a concerning loss, Mainz lower their sights considerably against Elversberg. 

Fischer’s men hit eight shots on target and six corners against Bremen on Saturday, and although they were open at the back, their expected goal numbers have been pretty strong this season. 

The 05ers are recording good data and Mainz have been good enough to beat Schalke, Hamburg and Borussia Monchengladbach this season. 

Elversberg were beaten 2-0 at home by Darmstadt in the German Cup on Tuesday. The Black and Whites huffed and puffed in that cup contest, but the result was a defeat to a team who sit at the bottom of the German second-tier table. 

Vincent Wagner’s men were hammered 4-0 at Leipzig last weekend and the Saarland side could hit only one shot on target. 

Elversberg have won only one of their last six matches, they rate as the Bundesliga’s weakest side and Mainz can win at Ursapharm-Arena.
