Benfica To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Benfica have played eight games this season and have won seven of those to nil. Defence wins you titles in the words of Sir Alex Ferguson and the Eagles, searching for a first Primeira Liga crown since the 2022-23 campaign, can secure another important win and clean sheet against Santa Clara, who have scored just two goals in their last seven games.

Benfica 2-0

Reason for tip

Santa Clara have failed to score in five of their last seven matches and their struggles in front of goal are likely to continue in Lisbon. Benfica rarely blow teams away, though, so two goals should do the trick for the hosts.

Benfica vs Santa Clara Predictions

  • Benfica have kept seven clean sheets in eight matches this season, conceding just one goal
  • The Eagles have gone 25 games without losing within 90 minutes
  • Santa Clara have won just one of their last seven matches

Benfica bound for another comfortable win

A final-day draw with Braga and a Sporting win cost Benfica the Primeira Liga title last season but they have made a great start to landing a first title since the 2022-23 campaign this time around, winning their opening three league games by an aggregate 6-1 score.

That should come as no surprise to anybody who watched them at the Club World Cup, where they beat Bayern Munich in the group stage and took eventual winners Chelsea to extra-time in the last 16, and they have been excellent on all fronts this season.

The Eagles have conceded just one goal in their eight games across all competitions and look set for an eight clean sheet of the campaign when they host Santa Clara on Friday.

Santa Clara could be outclassed in Lisbon

Benfica’s Primeira Liga unbeaten streak now stands at 18 games and includes 15 wins, so it is hard to envisage a Santa Clara side who were last month knocked out of the Conference League by Shamrock Rovers causing the title-chasing Eagles any real issues.

To make matters worse, the visitors have scored just two goals in their last seven games, blanking in five of those fixtures, and a home win to nil looks the smart punting play.
