Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

The Baggies have been difficult to break down at The Hawthorns while Southampton have been generally solid on the road, so they can revert to type after their 3-1 loss at Bristol City in what could be a cagey game, so go for under 2.5 goals

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

The race for the Championship playoff places looks set to be tight for the rest of the season and these two are in the thick of it. They are difficult to separate, so a 1-1 draw in Friday’s showdown looks a possibility

West Bromwich Albion vs Southampton Predictions

  • West Brom have conceded just once in their last five Championship home matches.
  • Seven of Southampton’s last nine away league games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • The Saints have had four 1-1 draws on the road this term.

Saints need to bounce back

Southampton’s hopes of gaining a top-two place in the Championship hit a snag on Tuesday when they lost 3-1 at Bristol City, but they have an early opportunity to make up for that when they head to fellow promotion challengers West Brom on Friday.

It looks set to be a tight affair and there may not be many goals as Albion possess the second-tier’s third tightest defence, which has helped them to victory in each of their last five games on their own patch.

They have conceded just one goal in those matches and the saints’ performance at Ashton Gate was rather uncharacteristic of the Saints as it was the only time in their last eight away games that Russell Martin’s side have conceded more than once.

Playoff contenders may be tough to split

Leaders Leicester are the only visiting team to have won at The Hawthorns in Albion;s last 13 home league games, so it is a tough trip for the saints, but their hosts have scored more than once in just five of those outings.

Consequently, it could be profitable to go for under 2.5 goals with a 1-1 draw potentially of interest for those keen to have a correct-score bet, something which happened when the Saints visited Huddersfield, Watford, Coventry and Norwich.
