We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Swansea City 2-1 @ 17/2

Reason For Birmingham vs Swansea City Predictions

  • Birmingham have failed to win their last nine matches.
  • The hosts have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 16 home matches
  • Both teams have scored in 11 of the Blues’ last 12 home games
  • Swansea are unbeaten in their last four clashes with Birmingham

Swans in playoff picture

After a 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, Swansea are within four points of the playoff spots. Their return to the Premier League could happen in the next couple of months if they finish the campaign on a high. This trip to Birmingham is the first of a five-game run which could see the Swans into the playoffs.

With clashes against Leeds and Nottingham Forest to come, it is an uphill battle for the Welsh side. They need to build on a solid away record here, but the hosts have their own reasons to battle for the points.

Trouble for Blues

If Swansea still believe that they can make the top four, then Birmingham should be worried. The hosts are only five points clear of the drop after the weekend’s results. They looked safe, but a string of poor results have seen them drop. Stoke – who were in the bottom three a game ago – are now only a place shy of the Blues. While Wigan’s points deduction will ease those fears, Pep Clotet’s team are not safe yet.

Clotet has already decided that he’s leaving the club at the end of the current campaign. Had he not done that, then he might have been forced out. After all, Birmingham are winless in their last nine games in the Championship (D6 L3); the joint-longest current run in the competition, along with Bristol City. Robins’ boss Lee Johnson was sacked for that run at the weekend, which shows the Blues’ struggles.

The hosts have been in poor form at home, last winning a game here on the first of February. They’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 16 matches at home across all competitions. That leaves them vulnerable against this attack-minded Swansea side.

Chances for Swans

The visitors should get plenty of opportunities here, with Birmingham conceding three goals in each of their last four home matches. The Blues have shipped a goal in 90% of their home matches, while Steve Cooper’s men will start on the front foot here. They’ve scored six times in four games since returning, only failing to score in a clash with Luton which they dominated.

However, the hosts have their own attacking punch going forward. They’ve seen both teams score in 11 of their last 12 home matches. They’ve scored 30 times in their 20 Championship games at home, so we expect them to trouble the Swans. As a result, we are going with both teams to score as our first prediction in this clash.

Birmingham are winless in four league matches against Swansea, while the hosts’ poor record of late will cause problems for them here. We see the Welsh side claiming a victory as they look to boost their chances of making the top six. We’re backing a 2-1 victory for the Swans as our correct score prediction.
