Boca Juniors vs Colon Predictions

Monday’s Superliga Argentina action sees Boca Juniors doing battle with Colon de Santa Fe. The hosts will be desperate to pick up a win after a terrible week.

As Boca boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto is learning; it doesn’t take too long for pressure to mount in the El Xeneize dugout. Champions two times in a row they may be, but Schelotto has had his future called into question throughout the week after a terrible 2-0 home defeat to arch enemy River Plate last weekend and a midweek 1-0 loss to Gimnasia de la Plata in the Copa Argentina.

Indeed, even when Boca were winning, Schelotto had come under fire, with the side’s football not quite as easy on the eye as you’d expect given the talent they undoubtedly posses. Nonetheless, looking at the bigger picture, away from the media furore, Boca still remain an extremely powerful force, evidenced by the fact they’d won 5 straight matches prior to last weekend and confidence will still be high in returning to winning ways on Bombonera turf the hosts have won 7 of their last 8 matches on.

Meanwhile, after a fairly impressive 11th placed finish last season, Colon have got off to a poor start in the new campaign, currently standing 20th after taking just 6 points from their opening 6 matches. Tired from a midweek trip to face Colombians Junior in the Sudamericana, which they lost 1-0 and set to rest players for the second leg of that tie, coming up midweek, a trip to the champions looks the last thing Los Sabaleros need right now.

Colon’s prospects really do not look the brightest ahead of kick off in the capital. Boss Eduardo Dominguez has some good players on his books and has done a good job in his stint with the club, but things simply aren’t clicking at the moment, particularly on the road, where the visitors have lost their last 3 matches and have scored just once in 4 trips.

Ultimately, although neither side will be at full strength with eyes on midweek continental action, Boca’s squad is a far deeper one, with the players set to come in of comparable quality to those being rested, something which cannot be said of Colon’s rotation.

La Bombonera will be expecting a win, and we can’t see Boca failing to deliver a performance once again. Boca have always bounced back when questions were being asked in recent years and still a dominant force as hosts, we just can’t envisage them slipping up and given the fact they’ve won 7 of their last 8 home matches to nil, said line looks well worth a play with a 2-0 margin of home victory on the cards.
