Bolton and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Bolton hit the woodwork twice and had solid penalty claims turned down in their 2-0 loss at Stockport last Sunday. They looked great going forward and can secure a win with both teams on the scoresheet on Saturday. Plymouth were sloppy at the back in a 3-1 home defeat to 10-man Barnsley, but the return of Bim Pepple in attack should increase their goal threat.

Bolton 2-1

Reason for tip

Bolton were unbeaten in pre-season, scoring multiple goals in four of their five senior friendlies. They hit exactly two goals on three occasions and might be good for a brace against a Plymouth side who were sloppy at the back against Barnsley. The Pilgrims can get one in a 2-1 defeat.

Thierry Gale To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Wanderers paid a sizable fee to sign Gale in the summer and he impressed on his debut, registering two shots in total and one on target. His scoring record in Georgia was pretty decent and he can cause plenty of problems in space against Plymouth defenders that were poor on Saturday.

Bolton vs Plymouth Argyle Predictions

  • Bolton hit the woodwork twice and had solid penalty claims turned down in their 2-0 loss at Stockport last weekend
  • Plymouth were sloppy at the back in a 3-1 home defeat to 10-man Barnsley
  • Bolton were unbeaten in pre-season and have some exciting players up front

Bolton and Plymouth look to bounce back

Bolton and Plymouth felt they deserved more than their opening-day defeats and will be out to put their first points on the board in Saturday’s League One clash at Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Steven Schumacher’s men went down 2-0 at Stockport in a game where they hit the woodwork twice, were denied a stonewall penalty and saw the Hatters’ goalkeeper pull of a series of smart saves.

Wanderers finished eighth last season, 19 points behind Stockport, but on the evidence of their opening game, there will be fewer points between the sides at the end of the campaign.

Cleverley’s comments suggest trouble at Toughsheet

Plymouth dropped down from the Championship and were given a rude awakening to this division by Barnsley, who earned a 3-1 win at Home Park despite going down to 10 men in the second half.

The controversial decision not to send the Tykes keeper off in the first half only added to Argyle’s dismay after they felt they had a perfectly good opener chalked off.  Pilgrims boss Tom Cleverly also pinpointed a lack of conviction in their defending in his post-match comments.

That will need to be rectified quickly if they are to mount a promotion challenge and with Bolton boasting a number of exciting attacking players like Thierry Gale, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow, they could be condemned to another defeat.
