Reason For Bordeaux vs Metz Predictions

Bordeaux have been rather lacklustre in their performances so far but at least Paolo Sousa’s men have been getting points on the board, something they struggled with last season. They have won one, lost one and drawn two of their opening four matches so far in the league and this is typical form of a team as pragmatic as Sousa’s.

Bordeaux couldn’t buy a win towards the end of last season but they have obviously put a bigger emphasis on their defensive setup this season as they have conceded the second smallest value of chances with an xGA of 3.45. This is a tally only bettered by PSG but they could really do with some Parisian flair as Bordeaux’s attack has struggled with them creating the third smallest value of chances this season.

Bordeaux got a great result before the break though as they travelled to Lyon and came away with a point (1-1). Bordeaux will be the hosts for this one and they have really struggled in front of their own fans. They’ve won just one of their last eight matches at the Matmut Atlantique.

Metz should look at this record with great excitement but they haven’t really shown enough quality yet for fans to believe they can win this match. They have the sixth worst xGA value with 6.48 chances conceded after four games and with them creating the fifth lowest xG so far, it looks bleak for the visitors.

Metz’s away form has never been outstanding, even in Ligue 2 last year, as they have won just three of their last ten games at the Stade Saint-Symphorien (eight in Ligue 2, two in Ligue 1). They also have the second worst xG record on the road this season with chances valuing just 0.40 after two games.

Bordeaux haven’t been great at home recently but this focus on defence has seen them improve this season and we feel this could get them the points here. Only one of Bordeaux’s games this season have seen over 2.5 goals and with that happening in just three of their last 13 home matches, we’re backing a low-scoring affair here. Bordeaux have won each of their last four matches against Metz and as a result we’re backing the Girondins to win 1-0.
