Bordeaux vs Nancy Predictions

Last season’s Ligue 2 champions started life in the big league fairly respectably, however, recent defeats to Nice, Lille and PSG mean Pablo Correa’s side have sunk to the foot of the standings and are already 4 points from safety.

Their latest defeat against reigning champions PSG at the weekend was far from disgraceful considering they only lost 1-2, however, the Parisiens were someway off their best and likely had an eye on forthcoming Champions League commitments.

Gaining nothing for their tremendous effort could leave a further mark on Correa’s men and Bordeaux will be keen to take advantage as they seek to put an indifferent couple of weeks behind them.

Draws against Caen and most recently Rennes came either side of a 2-0 defeat to PSG for Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team who have possibly been feeling the strain with several players including Nicolas Maurice-Belay, Maxime Poundje and the experienced Frederic Guilbert recently sidelined.

Whilst that trio look set to miss out again this Saturday, 6th placed Bordeaux should still have enough class to see off their opponents – especially if star strikers Jeremy Menez and Diego Rolan can start finding some more fluency in front of goal, having scored just three times between them in 2016/17 thus far.

The two sides last met at Stade de Bordeaux in 2012/13 when Nancy were last in the top flight but it was the hosts who ran out 3-2 winners.

A similar result on Saturday will cement Bordeaux’s current position in the top six, and whilst their last two home outings have been largely fruitless, the visit of struggling Nancy presents Gourvennec’s side with a good chance to notch their third home win of the campaign which we see as more than fair at 4/5.

Nancy have only conceded 12 in 9 so this shouldn’t be a drubbing but equally their own lack of firepower in front of goal (4 scored in 9) means a 2-0 score line in favour of the hosts appeals.
