Breidablik too strong for plucky Racing

Iceland’s Breidablik entertain Racing FC Union of Luxembourg in the second leg of their Europa Conference League first round qualifying tie on Thursday.

The two teams played out a five-goal thriller in the first leg last week as Breidablik fought back from 2-0 down to claim a 3-2 victory.

Racing were two goals up after 34 minutes but the Icelandic outfit reduced the deficit before the interval and turned the tie around with two second half goals.

Breidablik, who sit second in Iceland’s Pepsideild with 22 points from 11 games, have a formidable record at their Kopavogsvollur home with 13 wins in their last 14 home matches.  Blikar have won their last five consecutive games at home and have managed 18 goals during that time, with clean sheets in all of those matches.

Racing should provide a test and are unbeaten in their last six competitive games on their travels, with five wins and one draw, but they did lose five of their 16 away games in their domestic league last season.

This could well be a competitive affair but Breidabik can edge this fixture with home advantage and we’re backing the Icelandic club to finish the job with a win.  The hosts’ mean defensive record on home soil suggests another shut-out could be on the cards and a 2-0 victory for Breidabik looks a solid option as a correct score bet.
