Brentford vs Manchester United Predictions
- Brentford have won once at home in 2024
- United have won six of their last seven away games in all competitions
- Two injury time goals ensured a 2-1 victory for the Red Devils in the reverse fixture
Red Devils can increase Bees relegation troubles
United have been rife with inconsistencies throughout this season but they will be expected to have the quality to see off a struggling Brentford side on Saturday – with the Bees in danger of being pulled further into a relegation battle.
Thomas Frank’s side have failed to win any of their last six Premier League encounters (losing five) and they have picked up a solitary victory at the Gtech Community Stadium this calendar year – a 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devil’s meanwhile have begun to put their early season troubles behind them and have won eight of their last ten in all competitions, with their sole defeats coming at local rivals Manchester City and in a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham in what was a thoroughly disappointing performance.
Erik ten Hag’s men went into the international break on the back of an enthralling 4-3 victory over title-challengers Liverpool in the FA Cup and the momentum of this victory could put them in good stead to grab all three points at the weekend.
Ivan can return to scoring ways
Brentford do possess the firepower to at least get on the scoresheet on Saturday – as they have shown previously by taking the lead at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture – but one man that has found it difficult in recent weeks is striker Ivan Toney.
The 28-year old failed to score in any of five appearances for the Bees prior to the international break. However, he did grab his first goal for his country – from the penalty spot against Belgium on Tuesday night – and this could be the catalyst that creates a purple patch in form.
Toney will be expected to start against the Red Devils on Saturday but any goal the striker does get will likely be in vain. Strike’s in the 93rd and 97th from Scott McTominay ensured that United came away with a 2-1 victory when these sides last met and, with Brentford losing their last two by this same scoreline, a repeat result draws a lot of appeal.
