Tip Reasoning

  • Man United have scored in all of their away league trips this season
  • However, the Red Devils have only kept three clean sheets
  • Brentford have scored 12 goals in 10 home league games via 11 different players
  • United have lost seven of their last 22 trips to promoted sides

Home comforts for Bees

After a comprehensive loss at Anfield, Brentford will be glad of a return home this weekend. The hosts have lost four of their last five in the league, but three of those came on the road with the other a 1-0 defeat by champions Man City.

Facing United at home is a game which all promoted sides tend to look forward too, especially when the Red Devils look as shaky as they do now. Ralf Rangnick’s men blew a 2-0 lead to draw at Aston Villa on Saturday, with friction in the camp now apparent.

United’s defence unreliable

When Rangnick took over, his brief seemed to be to quickly organise the defence and have a foundation to build on. That hasn’t worked, with the Red Devils shipping a goal in each of their last four league outings.

United are at least scoring goals, having found the net in every away game this term. However, 70% of their trips have seen both teams find the net. That’s likely to continue this week given that Brentford pose a real threat going forward.

The Bees have scored 12 times across their 10 home matches this term, with 11 different players notching in that time. While Ivan Toney should be doing better than one home league goal by January, the Bees’ attacking options are making up for it. As a result, both teams to score is my first pick in this clash.

United vulnerable in this trip

Starting with a 5-3 loss at Leicester in September 2014, Manchester United have lost seven of their last 22 Premier League away games against promoted sides. That’s a poor record for a side with the ambitions United have, while it’s something the Bees can take advantage of.

The hosts have won three of their last four home matches, including two 2-1 victories. Given how United slumped from a comfortable position at the weekend and with problems growing within their camp, I’m backing a 2-1 win for the Bees to add to Rangnick’s issues.

Brentford predicted lineup: Fernandez; Ajer, Jansson, Pinnock; Roerslev, Janelt, Norgaard, Jensen, Canos; Mbuemo, Toney

Manchester United predicted lineup: De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo
