Brentford vs Sheffield United Predictions
- Both teams have scored in six of Brentford’s last seven Premier League matches
- Both teams have scored in Sheffield United’s last four league games
- At least four goals have been scored in 13 of the Blades’ last 15 matches in all competitions
All out attack in Bees and Blades’ survival battle
Brentford and Sheffield United’s approach to this season’s relegation battle appears to be all about attack with very little focus on keeping things tight at the back.
Either that or both managers have realised that they do not have the personnel to shut up shop and simply must outscore their opponents.
Bees boss Thomas Frank praised his side’s comeback at Aston Villa last weekend instead of dwelling on the late goal that cost his side two precious points. But it has been that way all season with Brentford giving up a league-leading 30 points from winning positions — the most in the Premier League.
Wilder’s side threaten clean sheet record
Frank’s team have not won in all competitions since they beat Wolves 2-0 in early February, but they will see the visit of the basement Blades as an ideal opportunity to put that right. Chris Wilder’s men claimed a hard-earned 2-2 draw with Chelsea last weekend to again suggest they have not given up in their battle to survive, although their outlook remains bleak.
The Blades have kept one clean sheet in 31 top-flight matches and remain on course to break West Brom’s 13-year-old record for the fewest shutouts in a Premier League season (2).
But they are still scrapping and are definitely enjoying their most prolific period in front of goal with eight goals in their last four matches.
Wissa steps up as Toney struggles
Both teams have scored in United’s last four and six of Brentford’s last seven, so the odds of about 7/10 on each side scoring and conceding look good here. Maybe the recent 0-0 draw between the Bees and Brighton has boosted the odds of either side failing to score, but both teams had strong penalty claims down in that otherwise dull fixture.
It has also subsequently emerged that Ivan Toney has been carrying a hip injury that affects his performance, although Frank is hopeful of seeing the England striker back to his old self here after taking him out of the starting line-up at Villa Park.
Yoann Wissa, who has scored four goals in his last seven club appearances in comparison to Toney’s zero, offers much better value in anytime goalscorer betting and should get some joy against the Premier League’s leakiest defence.
