Milan can edge entertaining contest

AC Milan can get their Europa League campaign up and running when they travel to face Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday.

Ruben Amorim’s side suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Benfica in their opening European fixture, but their domestic form has been much more encouraging. They are unbeaten in Serie A and drew 1-1 away to Sassuolo at the weekend, leaving them on 12 points from their opening six league games.

Salzburg began their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Levski Sofia and they have been particularly impressive at home. They have already beaten Austria Vienna 4-1, Rapid Vienna 5-1 and Sturm Graz 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena this season and have scored sixteen in their last five.

That scoring record suggests Milan are unlikely to have things all their own way, particularly with Salzburg possessing enough pace and attacking quality to trouble the Italian side.

However, Milan have the stronger squad and should benefit from the greater experience within their ranks. Salzburg can make this competitive, but the visitors are fancied to find a way through and are just about backable at 4/5 here, with a 2-1 away victory the correct-score prediction.
