Brentford vs Sunderland Predictions
- Brentford have 10 points from the last 12 available.
- Sunderland are winless in their last five away from home.
- The Bees have scored at least three goals in four of their last six home games.
In-form Bees can sting Sunderland
Brentford overcame Everton 4-2 in Merseyside over the weekend to move within four points of the Champions League places and they can follow that up with three points against Sunderland on Wednesday.
The visitors have enjoyed a stunning season back in the Premier League after winning promotion last term but the majority of their success has come on Wearside. Sunderland have just two wins in 10 attempts on their travels and may struggle to keep up with their free-scoring hosts, who have scored 10 goals in total across their last four games.
Brentford Community Stadium a fortress for hosts
Sunderland are on a four-game winless run but all of those games have finished level and they have been tough to break down with just two goals conceded in their last five games. However, their squad looks stretched due to a big contingent of players on AFCON duty, and the quick turnaround could work against them here.
Brentford have only lost once at home this season across all competitions and they have four wins in their last six at this venue. At the current prices, the Bees look great value for maximum points against these inconsistent travellers with some major selection issues.
Sunderland could strike in defeat
Brentford have scored at least three goals in four of their last six at home and exactly three in three of those games. Sunderland’s defence has been impressive but if the Bees can edge ahead early that could open the game up and they can grab a few goals on Wednesday.
The Black Cats have struggled for goals on the road but may be able to notch a consolation effort here as Brentford have just one clean sheet in their last 10 at the Brentford Community Stadium and both teams scored in the reverse fixture back in August, a 2-1 win for Sunderland. As such, a 3-1 home win seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
Igor Thiago enjoyed an incredible start to the campaign with 11 goals in 13 Premier League games. The Brazilian then hit a dry patch but ended that six-game goal drought in emphatic fashion with a hat-trick at Everton at the weekend. The Brentford forward should come into Wednesday’s game in confident mood after that three-goal haul and he can add to his tally for the season against Sunderland.
