Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Bristol City dropped a league-high 43 points after scoring the first goal since the start of the 2020/21 campaign, which includes a failure to win after netting first in all of their league games so far this season. Meanwhile, Luton have only been kept off the scoresheet in this fixture once since 2001!

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Nine of the last ten H2H encounters saw over 2.5 total goals while the same can be said in 11 of Bristol City’s 13 Championship outings. With both sides seeking a crucial first league win, this could descend into a high-scoring draw.

Bristol City vs Luton Predictions

  • There were over 2.5 total goals in 11 of Bristol City’s last 13 Championship home games.
  • Nine of the last ten H2H encounters produced over 2.5 total goals.
  • Bristol haven’t kept a clean sheet since April.

Somebody’s 0 has got to go… or does it?

It has been a disastrous start for Bristol City in this Championship campaign as they remain winless after three games despite taking a lead in every game so far! The frailties of last season remain amongst this Robins side as they have now failed to win 17 of their last 29 games when hitting the opener (W12, D8, L9).

Such an inability to hold a lead is good for the neutral at least, who have got to watch some exciting end-to-end football where Bristol City are involved. Either that or calamitous defensive displays, depending on who you ask.

No side saw both teams score in more than Bristol City’s 31 games last term (67%) and that trend has continued into the new season with goals at both ends in all of their games to date. As such, we think the visit of Luton may well continue that trend.

A fall from grace for the Hatters

After their incredible 2020/21 campaign in which they made the play-offs, Luton have began the new campaign in the worst possible fashion and are yet to record a win. Much like their hosts, Luton also let a lead slip to draw one of their games, although they have been much more solid on the whole.

We predict that this game may well follow a similar trend to so many involving the Robins, with the hosts hitting first and Luton clawing their way back into the game, perhaps more than once.

As such, we’re going for a BTTS – YES selection with a smaller stakes play on a 2-2 draw, one which compliments the high-scoring trends seen amongst Bristol City’s overall form and the H2H encounters.
