Reason For Bristol City vs Preston Predictions

  • Bristol City have won twice in 13 games
  • Preston are unbeaten in 13 clashes with Bristol City
  • The Robins have failed to win any of their last four final games of the season
  • Under 2.5 goals has landed in 17 of Preston’s 22 away trips

Slump continues for Robins

Bristol City’s end of season woes continued at the weekend, as they lost 1-0 away to Swansea. The Robins had looked to be back in form under Dean Holden, but their wins at struggling sides at Hull and Middlesbrough no longer look like a comeback, just a generous double-header seeing as they’ve only taken a point from the following two games.

The hosts have been in awful form outside of that, seeing as they’ve won just two of their last 13 league games (D3 L8), conceding in each of those games – indeed, only Hull City (19) are on a longer run without a shut out in the competition than Bristol City (15). Will that awful run continue in their final game of the season?

Head to head makes good reading for Preston

The hosts have little chance of a result if this clash goes the same way as previous meetings. Bristol City are winless in their last 13 league encounters against Preston (D5 L8), with their last win over them coming in February 2011. The same can’t be said of Preston, who have won on their last five league visits to Bristol City, with each of those victories coming by a one-goal margin.

Preston had a slow restart, but they are seemingly on the up. A 2-0 win over Birmingham on Saturday has continued a small revival for Alex Neil’s men, who have lost just one of their last five in the Championship (W2 D2). That’s left them only five points shy of the playoffs, and the visitors will want to finish as close as possible after spending the season fighting for a place in the top-six.

Hosts’ struggles to continue

Bristol City have failed to win their final game in a league season in each of the last four campaigns (D1 L3), since an 8-2 victory against Walsall on the final day of the 2014-15 League One season. That run is likely to continue here, given their terrible home record at the Championship’s strongest sides.

The Robins sit in 11th, having playing nine of the sides above them – producing no wins. They’ve lost six of those nine, scoring only three goals. With Preston hitting form of late and following their great record against the hosts, we are backing them to edge this encounter. Preston Draw no Bet is our first prediction here, which would be another big blow to Bristol City.

On top of that, we’re backing a 1-0 win for the visitors as our correct score prediction, as Preston have seen under 2.5 goals in 17 of their 22 away games this season. Given that Bristol City have drawn a blank in six of nine clashes at home to sides above them, we think the visitors will walk away with another single-goal victory at Ashton Gate.
