Cagliari vs Genoa Predictions

  • Eight of the last 12 Cagliari home Serie A matches have featured fewer than three goals.
  • Five of the last six meetings between these clubs have featured fewer than three goals.

Grifone go in search of first point in Sardinia

Genoa go in search of their first Serie A points of the season on Sunday when they face fellow strugglers Cagliari in Sardinia.

The Grifone lost 4-0 to Inter in the opening round before being beaten 2-1 at home by Napoli and then even succumbed 3-2 to Serie B Allesandria in a friendly played during the international break.

Confidence won’t be high in the camp coming to Unipol Domus, although Genoa should take heart from a three-game winning sequence against Rossoblu.

All three of those wins were by the minimum score of 1-0 and recent history between the clubs has seldom produced many goals – just ten scored in the last six meetings.

And if that wasn’t enough to point us in the direction of an ‘unders’ bet here, eight of the last 12 Cagliari home Serie A matches have featured fewer than three goals.

Rossoblu drew 2-2 at home to Spezia when they were much the better side on opening weekend, but capitulated to lose 4-1 after grabbing an early equaliser against AC Milan in the last round.

It looks like Leonardo Semplici will be without the services of Diego Godin after the veteran defender aggravated a knee injury on international duty but fellow Uruguayans Nahitan Nandez and Gaston Pereiro will be available.

Both teams have significantly lower goals against expectancies than the numbers they have conceded in reality this season and that strengthens our belief that Sunday’s matchup won’t be a goal-laden affair.

Cagliari have lost only one of their last five Serie A home games and Genoa have only slipped up against elite opponents like the Milan giants, Juventus and Roman clubs in their last ten aways, so we are supporting a 1-1 draw this weekend.
