Canada vs USA Predictions

• A loss for either side here could see them fall down the qualifying table.

The top two sides so far in qualifying go head-to-head at Tim Horton’s Field on Sunday.

Canada leading the way

Canada will play host to the USA and they’ll be hoping they can secure a victory in order to pull away at the top of the qualification table. They currently boast a slender lead at the top but a win would not only see them extend their lead, but it would also mean they remain unbeaten throughout this qualifying campaign. John Herdman’s side are also the top scorers so far, notching 15 goals in their nine matches and possesses the joint best defence, conceding just five times.

USA will be eager to claim a victory against the Canadians, but in order to achieve that, they’ll need to be the first team playing away in this fixture to win in 11 years. Avoiding defeat will be the most likely objective as if they suffer a loss and Mexico and Panama win their respective games, they’ll drop down the standings and will be battling to remain in the top four qualification spots.

Goals in short supply

It looks as though it’s going to be a cold one as temperatures are expected to hit -6 degrees in Ontario on Sunday night. With temperatures that low, it can be difficult to get into a rhythm and goals are usually hard to come by. Combine that with the facts that these two boast the best defences, conceding just 10 goals between them and that seven of the last eight meetings have seen fewer than three goals, we’re expecting a tight match with few breakthroughs here. A draw could also be likely given what’s at stake.
