Cardiff vs Burnley Predictions
- Cardiff have avoided defeat in their last six home games (three wins, three draws)
- Burnley have not won any of their last three matches that followed a defeat
- The Clarets failed to win at Portsmouth and Preston in their last two away Championship assignments
Bluebirds could block Clarets’ promotion push
Burnley’s promotion bid could take a hit on Tuesday when Scott Parker takes his team to the Cardiff City Stadium to face an awkward Bluebirds side on a six-game unbeaten run at home. Both clubs come into this clash on the back of FA Cup fifth round losses, but the nature of their exits was quite different.
Cardiff competed as best they could against a strong Aston Villa side at Villa Park, going down 2-0 with their pride in tact after a dogged display of defending against superior opponents. Meanwhile, Burnley hardly laid a glove on Lancashire rivals Preston in a 3-0 defeat with a display that looked suspiciously like they didn’t want to stay in the competition.
Parker made wholesale changes for the Deepdale clash and will at least have plenty of freshness to add back to his ranks for this difficult away game. However, the Clarets have not won three of their last five Championship away games and look too short in the betting to get all three points here.
Burnley have lost some momentum
The potential for an FA Cup hangover also surrounds both clubs and it is worth noting the results of the games that have followed Burnley’s three previous defeats this season. They failed to win any of them and any lost momentum from their previous 23-game unbeaten run can prove costly at Cardiff.
Back the Bluebirds to avoid defeat for a seventh home game in a row here. Omer Riza’s side have lost only three games since Boxing Day and held a good Coventry side to a 1-1 draw at home in January.
Three of Cardiff’s last six home games have finished one apiece and given three of Burnley’s last five away games have finished all square, the prospects of a drawn match look good.
