Bhoys’ woes to continue

Following Martin O’Neill’s miraculous title win with Celtic last season, it seemed the perfect opportunity for the veteran manager to bow out.

Instead, the 74-year-old decided to stay on as Bhoys boss and it already looks a poor decision as he slowly diminishes his own legendary status at the club.

Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Falkirk made it Celtic’s sixth defeat from their last ten games, two of which have been against rivals Rangers and three of which have come in Europe.

They host Besiktas on Thursday and a turnaround in fortunes looks extremely unlikely considering their level of form against the Bairns at the weekend.

The Turkish side have taken seven points from their first three Europa League matches, beating Marseille and Hoffenheim before drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace.

That level of form is way beyond anything Celtic have shown recently and the visitors look like a cracking bet to deepen the woes at Celtic Park and increase the pressure on O’Neill.

The mood is likely to be poor in the home stands after their recent form and their continued battles with the board. That negativity will spill out on to the pitch and Besiktas are fancied to take full advantage.

Both teams have scored in five of Celtic’s last six games and they can get on the scoresheet, albeit in defeat, take a 3-1 away win for correct score purposes.
