Charlotte to capitalise on New York City inconsistencies

Charlotte are the best bet to win at home to New York City.

New York City have achieved 31 points from their 20 games this season. They have recorded nine wins, four draws and seven losses, while Charlotte have 26 points from 21 games winning eight times, drawing two and losing 11.

Charlotte have been in goalscoring form, having scored two or more goals in 12 of their 21 MLS games this season. They have found the net at least twice in five of their last seven matches.

New York City’s recent form in MLS has been up and down, with three wins, one draw and two defeats in their last six games, including a 1-0 loss to lowly Montreal.

New York City have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just eight goals in nine games – an average of 0.89 goals a game on the road.

The visitors are looking vulnerable at the back. New York City have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their last six MLS games, and Charlotte will be confident of finding a way through.

A narrow 1-0 victory for Charlotte looks the most likely outcome. Three of the last five MLS games between New York City and Charlotte have produced under 2.5 goals, and three of New York City’s seven defeats this season have been by a 1-0 scoreline.
