Foxes facing up to realities of Championship life

Charlton face Leicester for the first time in 11 years on Saturday with the Addicks coming into the clash on a seven-game unbeaten run. Nathan Jones’ side have begun the campaign well after earning promotion from League One and could maintain their momentum against a team that have quickly hit the buffers.

Two set-piece goals earned Leicester an opening weekend win over troubled Sheffield Wednesday, but those strikes papered over the cracks of a poor performance.

And the Foxes lost their second game in a week, albeit the first was via a Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out, when they were turned over by Preston at Deepdale last Saturday. Marti Cifuentes’ team were caught several times on the counter attack and created little of note themselves until teenager Jeremy Monga was summoned from the bench.

Addicks have the weapons to win

This could be a tough trip to The Valley for them given Charlton have already beaten Watford and League One leaders Stevenage at home this term. They were the better side in both and should pose Leicester plenty of problems from open play and set-pieces.

Summer signing Rob Apter has been shining on the right wing and big defender Lloyd Jones is often the target from corners. His header set up Harvey Knibbs’ stoppage-time winner against the Hornets and he should have scored against Bristol City last weekend.

Charlton have the weapons to win this, although it might need another late show. Leicester have lost eight of their last 10 away matches dating back to last season and need to make a drastic change to alter their direction of travel.
