Chaves vs Nacional Predictions

Chaves must build upon last weekends terrific away win at high flying Moreirense by following it up with a home win over fellow relegation battlers Nacional on Sunday. The visitors arrive having failed to win any of their last six league games and increasingly look set to lose their status in the top flight of Portuguese football. However, there is just a point between these two clubs heading into Sunday’s match and with four games to go one or even both sides could still survive.

Chaves came under a lot of pressure away at Moreirense last time out, but held firm and took their chance in the seventy-second minute through Maraš to pinch a crucial 1-0 win and keep their survival dreams well and truly alive. Nacional didn’t see much of the ball or created any meaningful chances at home to Sporting CP, eventually losing the game to a second half goal from Luiz Phellype, but in truth they could have lost by even more.

The recent head to head record between these two clubs and their performances leading into Sunday’s match, all points towards a win and a clean sheet for Chaves. Chaves have won two of their last three matches against Nacional, five of the last six encounters between the pair have ended in a win to nil, and six of the last seven meetings have produced under 2.5 goals. Chaves have won two of their last six matches, both via the same 1-0 scoreline, while Nacional have lost five of their last six matches and have failed to score in four of those games. The hosts have only failed to score in one of their last six matches, a 4-0 defeat away at Vitoria Guimaraes, and we fully expect them to keep their good record of scoring goals in recent matches going this Sunday.

Ghazaryan, André Luis, and Niltinho all continue to joint top score for Chaves with three Primeira Liga goals, and that’s why we’re expecting a low scoring win for the hosts on Sunday. Rochez has impressed for Nacional this season, scoring ten league goals so far, but has all too often of late been starved of good service. We’re confident that Chaves will win to nil on Sunday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-0. The hosts have form in their favour as well as the home advantage, and we have seen in both teams recent results that one goal should be enough to win this game.
