Chelsea vs Manchester City Predictions
- Chelsea are winless in their last nine Premier League games against Manchester City
- The Citizens have won four of their last five away Premier League games against Chelsea
- The Blues have failed to score in three of their last four outings
Citizens can stamp their class
Having both booked their place in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend, this may not be the last time that Chelsea and Manchester City lock horns this season.
The Citizens brushed aside Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad to set up a semi-final date with Southampton, while Chelsea ran riot in a 7-0 win over League One strugglers Port Vale to organise a last-four rumble with Leeds.
They could well meet in the FA Cup final at Wembley but there is plenty at stake for both in the Premier League first and City should be full of confidence.
The Citizens are hitting top stride at a crucial stage in the season, having defeated Arsenal in the EFL Cup final before inflicting that heavy beating on Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola’s side are getting to full health at the right time and their only two defeats in their last 16 matches came home and away to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
With eight games to go, City will be keen to put the pressure on leaders Arsenal but a nine-point gap at the start of this weekend means any slip up could be fatal.
Beleaguered set for more disappointment
In stark contrast, Chelsea had been in dismal form before putting seven past lower-league opposition in Port Vale and the pressure has been ramped up on manager Liam Rosenior.
The Blues signed off before the international break with a dismal 3-0 defeat at Everton and that came on the back of two losses to Paris St-Germain and 1-0 beating from Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have won only one of their last six league games, which is why they started the weekend in sixth and have work to do to break into the Champions League places.
Rosenior still looks unsure on his favoured players in most positions and the decision to drop influential midfielder Enzo Fernandez for untimely comments shows some unrest in the camp.
The Citizens are unbeaten in 12 meetings with Chelsea, winning three of the last four, and that superiority should be upheld as the Blues have failed to win their last three Premier League home games.
City have won four of their last five away Premier League games against Chelsea, the latest of which ended 2-0, and that may be the way to go for correct-score punters.
The hosts have failed to score in three of their last four games while City should be buoyed defensively by back-to-back clean sheets against Arsenal and Liverpool.
