Chelsea vs Sevilla Predictions

  • Chelsea have conceded in five of their seven competitive games this season.
  • Sevilla have scored in four of their five competitive games but kept just one clean sheet this term.
  • Three of Chelsea’s last four matches have been level after 90 minutes.
  • Timo Werner scored four goals in eight Champions League appearances last season.

Blues Defensive issues rear ugly head again

Two of Chelsea’s big money summer signings were front and centre at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as Timo Werner got off the mark in the Premier League with a brace before Kai Havertz bagged a third for the Blues.

However, Werner’s excellent performance was somewhat overshadowed as Chelsea’s woeful defensive form continued. They relinquished a 2-0 lead before Havertz put them ahead again, but a dramatic finale saw Jannik Vestergaard head home an equaliser. All three of Southampton’s goals involved defensive mistakes, with Havertz, Kurt Zouma and Kepa all at blame.

Chelsea have now conceded in five of their seven competitive games this season, only keeping a clean sheet against lower-league Barnsley and a Crystal Palace side that offered little threat going forward.

Visitors look to build on Europa League success

Sevilla will be hoping to take advantage of this on Tuesday as they attempt to transfer their Europa League success onto the bigger stage of the Champions League.

Sevilla are unbeaten in seven European matches and have only lost one of their last seven in the Champions League, although their last appearance in the competition was back in 2017/18.

They did lose at Granada on Saturday, but prior to that they had won two and drawn one of their La Liga games this season and their trip to Granada was the first time they’ve failed to score all season. In fact, Sevilla have scored in nine of their last ten competitive games and have more than enough to trouble this shaky Blues back line.

Goals at both ends expected

Los Palanganos have conceded in all but one of their five competitive games this season though, and now Werner has brought his mini goalscoring drought to an end it’s hard to imagine Chelsea failing to register. Backing both teams to score looks a great option.

With Chelsea drawing three of their last four games and scoring an average of 2.8 goals per game this season, a high scoring 2-2 stalemate is our pick for the correct score prediction.

We’re also backing Werner to continue firing after his brace at the weekend. The Germany international scored four goals in eight Champions League appearances for RB Leipzig last season and will be teeming with confidence after his sensational show against Southampton.
