      Chelsea vs Southampton Predictions

Chelsea could only rescue a point last week when they played one of the worst sides in the Premier League.

Newcastle had only two points to show from their six opening Premier League games, but they managed to go 2-0 up against a dreadful Chelsea side. It took late goals from Ramires and Willian for Chelsea to salvage a point at St James’ Park, but the result is disappointing for them nonetheless.

They followed this up with a midweek loss at Jose Mourinho’s old stomping ground, with Porto emerging deserved victors and plunging Chelsea into even more disarray.

Their Premier League efforts so far have left them with just eight points from seven games, with their only victories coming against West Brom and Arsenal.

Southampton also started the season poorly, but Ronald Koeman has managed to pick the squad up and they have started to put together a run of decent results.

They beat Swansea 3-1 at home last weekend to follow on from an emphatic 6-0 win at MK Dons. This came after an unfortunate 3-2 loss to Manchester United, a goalless draw with West Brom, and a 3-0 win over Norwich.

This leaves them in 10th position in the Premier League with nine points from their opening seven games, but there is no doubting that they are on the up.

This recovery will be aided as their injury list dwindles, and now only Florin Gardos, Fraser Forster, and Jordy Clasie are sidelined. Although there has been talk of new signing Clasie recovering in time for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will only be missing Thibaut Courtois through injury and Diego Costa as he serves the last match of his suspension.

Southampton managed to get a point from both Premier League fixtures last season against Chelsea, and I’m expecting them to get something from this game as well considering Chelsea’s dismal form. Odds of 1/1 for a Southampton Win or Draw Double Chance look really good value as well, so I’m backing that along with a 1-1 draw at 12/1.
