Chile vs Bolivia Predictions

  • Chile have won four of the five most recent meetings not played at altitude, by an average margin of two goals each.
  • Bolivia have scored in all of their last seven internationals, two of which were against Chile.

Chile should pepper Bolivian goal on Friday

Chile can kickstart their Copa America campaign with a victory against neighbours Bolivia on Friday night.

Martin Lasarte’s men were fortunate to avoid defeat in their opening game against Argentina in a game that saw the Albiceleste miss a hatful of chances before and after Lionel Messi’s free-kick broke the deadlock.

Chile claimed a share of the spoils when Eduardo Vargas reacted fastest to finish when Arturo Vidal’s penalty was saved.

This match should be a very different affair, however, as Chile take on a Bolivia side reeling from a 3-1 mauling at the hands of Paraguay in their opening Group A clash.

La Verde took the lead through a contentious penalty and were already under a barrage of pressure when attacker Jaume Cuellar received his marching orders on the stroke of half-time.

He will be forced to sit this one out, although it shouldn’t impact the amount of favouritism Chile will carry into the clash.

Backing Bolivia to score looks appealing based on their recent record of notching in eight consecutive games, but they are poor defensively.

Their overworked goalkeeper is a poor judge of crosses and his nerves can translate to the defenders ahead of him.

We expect Chile to fully exploit that, having enjoyed success against Bolivia in recent matches.

La Roja have won four of their last five against Bolivia and will still be seething they didn’t make it five in a row earlier this month in World Cup qualifying.

Chile hit the woodwork twice and missed a succession of chances before falling to the same sucker punch they produced themselves against Argentina so we can expect them to be on the attack from the off.

Taking Chile on the Asian Handicap offers a good chance of returns based on their average margin of victory against Bolivia being exactly two goals across their last five encounters – and it should have been more.
