FC Porto to Win

Reason for tip

Club Brugge are already through to the round of 16 and could relax for the visit of Porto, who will go through to the round of 16 if they win and Atletico Madrid do not. Brugge have faltered a bit of late and could be vulnerable to a dangerous Porto side that beat Bayer Leverkusen home and away.

FC Porto 1-0

Reason for tip

Club Brugge are a well-organised side in defence and should not be expected to concede more than once, even to a Porto outfit that have scored regularly on the road. The Dragons have blanked four of their last six away opponents and another clean sheet can be had here.

Club Brugge vs Porto Predictions

  • Club Brugge are already through to the round of 16 and will be confirmed as group winners if they avoid defeat.
  • Porto will go through to the round of 16 if they win and Atletico Madrid do not.
  • Porto have kept four clean sheets in their last six away games.

Porto can gain revenge on qualified hosts

Porto could gain revenge for the 4-0 home defeat they suffered against Club Brugge in September when the two sides meet again at Jan Breydelstadion on Wednesday. The Dragons were shockingly off colour that day, but have hauled themselves into a position whereby they could knock Atletico Madrid out if they win in Belgium.

Porto’s away form in the Champions League would put many a brave man off backing them at 6/5. The Portuguese champions have failed to deliver on the road so many times in recent memory, but have so much to gain here that they are worthy of moderate support in the match result market.

Sergio Conceicao’s side come into this off the back of a 1-0 loss to Portuguese table-stoppers Benfica, although they had dominated the tussle early on before Stephen Eustáquio was sent off in the 27th minute.

Back Dragons to bounce back from Benfica setback

Prior to that, they had won five on the bounce which included home and away victories over a dangerous Bayer Leverkusen side.

Club Brugge have faltered a bit with only two win sin their last five and could be vulnerable if they aren’t fully up for this. Given they have secured their passage already and whatever bonus scheme they had has been earned by Carl Hoefkens and his men, it may be shrewd to oppose them.

A 1-0 Porto win is forecast here because Blauw-Zwart are a well-organised side in defence and should not be expected to concede more than once, even to a Dragons side that have scored regularly on the road. Porto have blanked four of their last six away opponents and another clean sheet will surely be the basis of any away win.
