      Clyde vs Hamilton Predictions

Unlike Clyde, who’ll play their first competitive game of the season on Wednesday, Hamilton come into this game with 90 minutes under their belts, though it wasn’t a match to remember. After drawing 0-0 with Queen’s Park, the Accies will be looking to do better.

Drawing (and failing to score) first time out was disappointing, especially as they faced a lower-level side, though if we look at Hamilton’s effort against Clyde, then it’s easy to feel that they did OK. End-product was lacking, though as they dictated possession, registered nine shots, two of which hit the target, and conceded only three, none of which hit the target, we can say that Hamilton weren’t terribly. If nothing else, their rather dominant effort on match-day one gives them base to move forward from.

Historically, this hasn’t exactly been a competition that has treated Hamilton all that well, or at least they’ve not always thrived when playing away from home, even when playing against weak teams. Last season, the Accies did beat Berwick by four goals to nil on the road, though they also lost (1-0) to Anna Athletic, who ply their trade in the division below Wednesday’s hosts.

That said, from a goalscoring point of view, Hamilton have tended to do well away against lower-level opposition, as since 2016, they’ve scored three or more in four of their six travelling League Cup matches against teams playing in a league below their own.

In contrast, Clyde have tended to flounder from a defensive point of view when playing against top-tier teams in this competition, as we saw last season when they shipped three against Motherwell. However, while they’ve not defended greatly, conceding in each of their 12 home games since their competition debut back in 2007, Clyde have a good scoring record at home in the League Cup. They notched against Motherwell when last in League Cup action at this venue, while they’ve now scored at least once in each of their last seven at Broadwood Stadium, scoring against top-tier opponents Kilmarnock during that time.

In the betting, ‘Hamilton to Win & Both Teams to Score’ catches the eye. In terms of quality, the visitors have enough to overpower their hosts, as their scoring record against lower-level teams suggests, though they’ve not always done things the easy way in this competition. If we consider this in conjunction with the fact that Clyde have made a habit of scoring at home, notching in defeat to both Motherwell and Kilmarnock in recent years, backing the visitors to avoid keeping a clean sheet on route to victory appeals.
