Colchester vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

It’s been a tough week for Spurs, as they disappointed at home and in Europe. Spurs have hit a tricky patch of form with just one win in six matches. However, their Carabao Cup trip to Colchester appears to be the perfect chance for them to turn things around. This clash could provide a confidence boost for Spurs, especially with tricky clashes with Southampton and Bayern Munich on the horizon.

Meanwhile, Colchester are middling in the fourth tier, which has left them just shy of the playoffs. They’ve turned around a poor League Cup record to make it this far, but the hosts may be stretched a little too far against top-flight opponents. Colchester have no pressure on them here, but that doesn’t exactly leave them playing with freedom. They’ve already struggled to score goals in the fourth tier, so will they prove to be out of their depth here?

Mauricio Pochettino must still be fuming over the way their clash with Leicester turned against them. Going from 2-0 up to 2-1 down is a rare occurrence, but at least they can be safe from any VAR issues in this trip. They could also use this clash as an opportunity to turn around their failing defence. While the offside call against Son on Saturday was ludicrous, there’s obviously an issue with Spurs, which has seen them ship four goals in four days to throw away two leads.

Tottenham have the basis of a strong back-line, but the visitors need to settle things down at the back. We know what Spurs can look like at their very best, while they shouldn’t need to stretch themselves for a clash with League Two opposition. Tottenham were able to make the semis of this competition last season, while we are backing them to cruise into the fourth round this week.

Colchester have scored 11 times in 10 matches at League Two level this season. It isn’t the worst record, but they are unlikely to add to that against Spurs. They failed to score against Crystal Palace in the second round, while this is an even bigger test. Before this term, the hosts had failed to win nine outings in this competition. They’ve just managed to get through to the third round, but they are unlikely to cause a shock here. With the hosts struggling for goals and given their poor Carabao Cup record, we’re backing Spurs to win to nil in this clash.
