Tip Reasoning

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in seven of Colchester’s last ten home league games.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in eight of Tranmere’s last ten away League Two fixtures.
  • Four of Colchester’s last ten at home have finished 1-1, as have three of Tranmere’s last eight on the road.

Rocking Rovers unlikely to face Colchester onslaught

Tranmere’s once-superb defensive record has taken a downturn of late, but they are probably unlikely to face an attacking onslaught from cautious Colchester on Saturday.

The U’s came close to grabbing a draw against League Two leaders Forest Green on Monday when substitute Junior Tchamadeu’s effort came back off the post in the closing stages. But they have now only scored one first half goal in their last ten league games and so often don’t even look like threatening until the final 30 minutes.

Visitors Tranmere had shipped just 15 goals through their opening 26 league games, but have now conceded 18 in their last 12. Micky Mellon’s men still have the join-second best defensive record in the division, but we can’t be sure whether there’s enough security at the back to guarantee three points in Essex.

Goals have become scarce for these clubs at the moment

Whereas the majority of Tranmere’s first 15 league wins this season were by a 1-0 scoreline, Rovers are now finding that they need to score multiple times to get the job done. And, although they managed a tally of 44 goals so far this season, no individual currently has more than five goals to their name – highlighting the lack of a reliable goalscorer.

Rovers have scored multiple goals in only four of 19 away trips this season, which feeds into our feeling that this will be a low-scoring affair. An under 2.5 goals play looks worth siding with given fewer than three goals have been scored in seven of Colchester’s last ten home league games and in eight of Tranmere’s last ten away League Two fixtures.

The correct score forecast of 1-1 is based in four of Colchester’s last ten at home games finished that way, as have three of Tranmere’s last eight on the road.
