Columbus Crew vs Sporting Kansas City Predictions
Columbus Crew and Sporting KC both sit tenth in their respective Conferences and head into Sunday’s match having won just one of their last six games in all competitions and were both knocked out of the US Open Cup last time out. Both teams will be looking at this match as a great opportunity to return to winning ways and we’re expecting a close and competitive ninety minutes between the pair on Sunday.
Columbus Crew played host to Atlanta United in midweek where the pair played out a five-goal thriller. The visitors moved two goals in front inside the opening fourteen minutes but Columbus Crew managed to pull a goal back before the break through Accam. Shortly after the half-hour mark, Atlanta United restored their two-goal advantage and despite an own goal from goalkeeper Guzan bringing Columbus Crew back into the tie, the visitors held on to progress through to the next round of the US Open Cup.
Sporting KC were soundly beaten in the US Open Cup by Minnesota United last week despite the two teams going in level at the break. The hosts took the lead in the second minute but Fernandes equalised for Sporting KC shortly before the half-hour mark. An early second-half goal saw Minnesota retake the lead and two goals from Quintero helped the hosts secure safe passage into the next round.
The recent encounters between these two clubs and both team’s form and performances over the last month, point towards a score draw this weekend. The last two meetings between these two clubs ended in stalemates and both teams have scored in five of the last seven encounters between the pair. Columbus Crew drew their last match in the MLS and Sporting KC have drawn three of their last six matches in the league. Both teams scored in three of Columbus Crew’s last four and five of Sporting KC’s last six matches, which is why we’re backing a 1-1 draw between the pair this weekend.
Zardes top scores for the hosts with six league goals but is away at the Gold Cup, while Sporting KC’s joint top scorers Nemeth and Russell return to the side following the conclusion of their international duty. We’re confident that Sunday’s game will end in a draw and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-1. The last two meetings between these two teams have ended in draws and neither side head into this weekend’s match in good form, but both have been scoring and conceding goals on a regular basis of late.
