Costa Rica to stop the rot

After back-to-back defeats, Costa Rica will be hoping to get their qualifying campaign back on track. A narrow 1-0 defeat to Canada followed a slender 2-1 loss in the USA last month.

A home game with Honduras provides Costa Rica with a much easier chance of closing in on Panama in the play-off place.

Los Ticos have won just one of their seven qualifying matches so far but that victory came in their last home game against El Salvador as they ran out 2-1 winners.

Honduras agony continues

New Honduras manager Hernan Gomez almost got off to the perfect start as his side led 2-0 against Panama on Friday until they conceded three goals in nine minutes towards the end of the game and they suffered a third consecutive defeat.

Los Catrachos have failed to win any of their seven qualifiers and have scored just one goal in three away matches leaving them bottom of the group.

A run of three straight losses started in Mexico’s last away game losing 3-0 in Mexico City last month.

I expect Honduras’ woes to continue in this fixture with Costa Rica in desperate need of all three points. They have been out of form themselves but a 1-0 win would be well received in San Jose.
