Costa Rica vs Jamaica Predictions

Jamaica, runners-up in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year, were defeated 2-0 by Panama in the opening game of qualification thanks to a goal from Armando Cooper, and a Wes Morgan own goal.

The Reggae Boyz were able to shake that losing form going into their next fixture as they beat Haiti away from home 1-0. They appeared to struggle in the first half going in 0-0 at half time. Shortly after the second half resumed however Birmingham City striker Clayton Donaldson was able to find the back of the net, with a goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Copa Centroamericana champions Costa Rica hit the ground running, in the first two games of qualification, and look to continue their unbeaten streak. In their opening fixture they won 1-0 at home to a struggling Haiti, West Brom defender Cristian Gamboa’s goal proving decisive.

In the next game Oscar Ramirez’s Costa Rica team struggled against a well organised Panama defence. Team captain Bryan Ruiz however stepped up to break the deadlock in the 66th minute. Marco Urena joined him on the scoresheet shortly after, but Panama forward Luis Tejada was able to sneak what proved to be just a consolation goal 20 minutes from time. Costa Rica managed to hold on and win 2-1.

When the sides met last week it was a closely contested affair the scoreline ending up 1-1 Je-Vaughn Watson opened the scoring for Jamaica after just 17minutes, however Costa Rican defender Jhonny Acosta equalised in 67th minute. There were only 3 shots on goal in total the whole game, most of the action restricted to the centre of the park.

Like the reverse fixture last week we are not likely to see many goals here, both Costa Rica and Jamaica will be playing conservatively to maintain their place in the group. Get Under 1.5 goals at 11/8 with bet365.
