Tip Reasoning

  • Valladolid have slipped to 15th in the table after picking up just two points from their last five matches.
  • However, the hosts have been difficult to beat at Jose Zorrilla this term, losing just one of their seven outings.
  • Valencia are 8th in the standings and just three points behind the top four after winning four of their last six La Liga games.
  • Los Che have been inconsistent on the road this season, though, losing four from eight on their travels.

Perfect week for Los Che spoiled at the death

A 95th minute equaliser from Karim Benzema spoiled a great week for Valencia on Matchday 17, as Los Che were forced to settle for a share of the points against Real Madrid at Mestalla.

Fresh from their tremendous 0-1 triumph over Ajax which secured their passage to the Last 16 of the Champions League, Valencia were by far the better side in last weekend’s feature game, and looked to have won it after Carlos Soler broke the deadlock 12 minutes from time.

But Benzema was on hand to restore parity for Los Blancos at the death, and the draw keeps Valencia 8th in the table and three points behind the top four going into the final round of fixtures before the Christmas break.

Whilst visibly disappointed by the late sucker punch, Albert Celades’ side will have reflected positively on their recent form over the past few days and they have now amassed 13 points from their last six league matches.

Los Che are clearly a far more consistent outfit now than at the start of the campaign; however they still have to prove that they can string results together on the road, after losing four of their eight away La Liga games this term.

Valladolid looking desperate in front of goal

Valencia beat Levante 2-4 when last on their travels a fortnight ago, and they will be optimistic about their chances of recording back to back away successes this Saturday, when they take on a Valladolid side who have failed to score a single goal in their last five league games.

Pucela have been nothing short of atrocious in front of goal since easing past Mallorca 3-0 at Jose Zorrilla on Matchday 12, and they are now down to 15th and just five points clear of relegation after a 2-0 defeat at Getafe last week.

A 0-3 midweek Copa Del Rey win at Tolosa will have restored a modicum of confidence in Sergio’s squad, but it’s hard to envisage them being good enough to beat Valencia this weekend based on their current struggles and Los Che’s growing momentum.

Host’s likely to play to their strengths

One thing in Valladolid’s favour is their overall record at Jose Zorrilla this season, where they have been very difficult to beat. Sergio’s side have lost only to 3rd placed Sevilla (0-1) in seven home outings this term, and the priority this weekend will be to keep this thriving Valencia side at bay.

And it’s the host’s lack of defeats at home, coupled with Valencia’s losses on the road, which means we’re swerving the match betting in this fixture in favour of backing under 2.5 goals.

Valladolid’s aforementioned problems up front are a key reason towards this, and all but one of Pucela’s home matches this season have produced fewer than 2.5 goals.

Valencia are clearly the team in form and rate as the most likely winners though, so we’re also going for a 0-1 correct score prediction as Los Che look to bridge the gap between themselves and the top four.
