Coventry vs Birmingham Predictions
- Coventry are unbeaten in the Championship so far this term.
- Birmingham have lost three of their last four fixtures, failing to score in each defeat.
- Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Coventry’s last four home games.
Coventry to edge Saturday’s Midlands Derby
Birmingham snapped a three-game losing run last weekend with a much-needed 1-0 win at home to Swansea, though they needed a 94th-minute strike from Lyndon Dykes to snatch maximum points.
The Blues had failed to score completely in successive defeats to Port Vale (1-0), Leicester (2-0) and Stoke (1-0) before that, and manager Chris Davies has yet to find the right blueprint and combinations in attack to make City a goal-scoring force in the Championship.
Indeed, Birmingham have scored only five times in as many league fixtures since their promotion and only three teams in the division have notched less often so far.
The Championship’s leading scorers, Coventry, have had no such trouble in the final third. Though their league-high tally of 15 goals was inflated by their 7-1 win over QPR in August, Frank Lampard’s side have attacked with menace this term and have been averaging more shots per game (18.5) than any other side in the second tier.
A run of three draws against Oxford, Norwich and Leicester has taken some of the wind out of Coventry’s sails, however, they are backed to return to winning ways in Saturday’s Midlands Derby.
Birmingham were beaten to nil in each of their last two away assignments in the Championship and mustered just one shot on target in their defeats to Stoke and Leicester combined. Their lack of punch in the final third could hold them back again at the CBS Arena, so side with Coventry in the match result stakes.
Each of Birmingham’s last five games have produced under 2.5 goals however, as have three of Coventry’s last four skirmishes on home soil, and Saturday’s Derby could be decided by slender margins. With that considered, our correct score forecast settles on a 1-0 home win.
