Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Both teams have much more at stake in their league campaigns with promotion and relegation issues to solve, so this could be a carefree affair. At least three goals have been scored in five of Ipswich’s last six games and also in 11 of Coventry’s last 15 home matches.

Ipswich 2-1

Reason for tip

Ipswich won both Championship clashes between the clubs last season by 2-1 scorelines and a repeat is taken here because they have enough firepower to paper over the cracks that have appeared in their defence. The Sky Blues have not conceded more than two goals at home all season, although eight of the last 15 visitors to the Coventry Building Society Arena have bagged twice.

Liam Delap To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Liam Delap has the pace and power to unsettle a Coventry defence that has deployed a high line when chasing games recently. The Ipswich striker scored his ninth Premier League goal of the season with an accomplished one-on-one finish last week.

Ipswich will be keen to halt losing run

Ipswich will see Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Coventry as a chance to halt a four-game losing streak that has left them in dire relegation trouble. The Premier League club are odds-against to beat the Sky Blues, who famously lost on penalties to Manchester United in the semi-final of this competition last spring.

That may be a bet that will scare a few because Coventry have been in good form of late, albeit a five-game winning sequence was halted at home to Leeds United on Wednesday.

That contest finished 2-0 to the Championship leaders, although 5-2 would have been a more accurate reflection of how the game went with Leeds missing several chances to score a third goal in the second half while their keeper made two superb saves to keep City out.

Lampard leaves gaps at the back

This match promises to feature a few goals as well with Ipswich coming in off the back of some high-scoring affairs. Sadly for Kieran McKenna’s side they have been on the wrong end of the last few, but Liam Delap’s pace, power and undoubted class should ensure they more than play their part in an entertaining cup clash – as long as he is selected.

Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard went all Ange Postecoglu on Leeds and deployed a very high defensive line in the second half in a bid to battle back from two goals down. It succeeded in wresting the control away from Leeds even if they should have punished Coventry on the counter.

Ipswich are a good counter-attacking team and may be able to do what Leeds couldn’t if the match goes in a similar direction. Both teams are also good at exploiting set pieces so this one should deliver three or more goals on Saturday.
