Cremonese vs Atalanta Predictions
- Cremonese have won just one of their 27 league games this season, failing to build on February’s upset of Roma.
- Atalanta have taken 24 points from 14 away games in Serie A this term – a tally only beaten by top two Napoli and Lazio.
- Atalanta ended a four-match winless run by beating Empoli 2-1 before the international break.
One last push for La Dea?
The international break may have come at the perfect time for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta, who ended a four-game winless streak by beating Empoli a fortnight ago to head into the hiatus on a high. Despite only winning two of their last seven league games and losing four times in that run, Atalanta remain just three points adrift of the top four and are very much in the race for Champions League qualification. They will be confident of getting their run-in off to a strong start at rock-bottom Cremonese.
Atalanta had to come from behind against Empoli last time out, with Rasmus Hojlund’s late goal – his eighth since his August move from Sturm Graz – sealing their 2-1 victory. However, La Dea’s expected goals total of 2.9 xG demonstrated their dominance in that game, and they have tended to enjoy themselves on the road this term. Indeed, only Serie A’s top two Napoli and Lazio have bettered Atalanta’s tally of 24 points from 14 away league matches this term, and they will be confident of another fruitful road trip when they go to Serie A’s worst side.
Cremonese have failed to build on February’s shock win over Roma, taking one point from their subsequent three games to leave them with one win from 27 league outings this term and 11 points from safety. Davide Ballardini’s men have improved in front of goal recently, netting multiple goals in three of their last five matches, though they have conceded 14 times in their last seven. The club’s owner Giovanni Arvedi recently admitted they were “not prepared” for Serie A after winning promotion last year, and they may find themselves similarly unready to face Atalanta.
Visitors to maintain top-four pressure
With Cremonese enduring a miserable season and Atalanta possessing a strong away record, we’re backing the visitors to pile the pressure on their rivals for Champions League qualification with a win at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.
Meanwhile, both teams have scored in four of the hosts’ last five games. Atalanta should have too much for Ballardini’s men, making a 3-1 away win a potentially lucrative correct score play.
