Crvena Zvezda to Win

Reason for tip

Crvena Zvezda have the better chance of breaking into the top eight with a win and they can make the most of home advantage to overcome Celta. Red Star have seven wins and just one defeat in their last 10 at home and have beaten both Lille and FCSB at this venue in the Europa League, while Celta have two defeats in three trips in this competition.

Crvena Zvezda vs Celta Vigo Predictions

  • Crvena Zvezda have won seven of their last 10 home games, losing just one
  • Celta have lost two of their three away league phase games
  • Red Star have four clean sheets in their last five at home

Top eight the target for Red Star and Celta

Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda host La Liga outfit Celta Vigo in the final round of league phase games on Thursday in a clash where both sides could sneak into the Europa League’s top eight and secure a place in the last 16.

Red Star have the more realistic chance and a win may well be enough for them to leapfrog enough teams to avoid a play-off, while Celta need a number of results elsewhere to go their way.

The key difference, however, could be home advantage as Crvena Zvezda have an excellent record at this venue. Red Star have won seven of their last 10 at the Stadion Rajko Mitić in Belgrade, losing just once, and have home wins over Lille and FCSB in this competition.

Celta’s away record has been fairly poor with two losses in their three trips, including a disappointing defeat to Ludogorets in Bulgaria. Domestically their road record has been better but that form has dipped of late with just one win in their last four away games – and they were eliminated from the Copa del Rey at La Liga 2 outfit Albacete during that run.

A 1-0 win for Red Star looks a reasonable correct score prediction as their last two home European wins have come via that scoreline, The Serbian club have conceded just one goal across their last five home fixtures, and can grind out a win over Celta.
