Crystal Palace to Win
Reasoning
Reason for tip
While Crystal Palace find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League, they should relish being back in Europa League action and their strong home European record deserves respect against Hoffenheim, who are poor travellers.
Crystal Palace 3-1
Reasoning
Reason for tip
Palace have been struggling for goals domestically, but all three of their Europa League ties this season have featured at least three, so go for a 3-1 win for the Eagles.
Crystal Palace vs TSG Hoffenheim Predictions
- Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last seven European home games
- Hoffenheim have won one of their last six European away matches
- Ten of Hoffenheim’s 13 matches this season have produced at least three goals
Palace should be delighted to be back in Europe
Crystal Palace are in the Premier League’s bottom three having failed to score in their last three league matches, but there is a chance they will be able to put that form to one side and claim a Europa League win over Hoffenheim.
While domestic goals have been hard to come by, they have netted eight times in three Europa League outings this term and their 4-0 opening win over Lech Poznan has been their most convincing show under new boss Pierre Sage.
The Conference League holders have a strong record on their own patch in European competition over the last two seasons, which should stand them in good stead and there looks a decent chance that they will be afforded plenty more opportunities in this match than they will when they take on Liverpool at the weekend.
Hoffenheim’s away form is a concern
Hoffenheim have scored at least twice in nine of their last 11 outings, but they have not had a great week after being knocked out of the German Cup by 2.Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel and then falling to a 2-0 league loss at Werder Bremen.
They have already lost to OFI Crete and Besiktas in this competition this season and while they bounced back impressively with a 3-0 success against Lyon, their away record is a concern as they have won just one of their six matches on their travels this season and that record is replicated in their last half-a-dozen European away encounters.
So while Palace are facing problems in the Premier League, they should have enough to come out on top of a high-scoring game, and correct-score punters are pointed towards backing a 3-1 success for the Eagles.
