Czech Republic look up against it

An impressive run at Euro 2020 saw Czech Republic knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Denmark, and they have won four of their seven competitive fixtures since the tournament.

Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side beat Switzerland 2-1 in the Nations League on Thursday, but otherwise have a poor record against the world’s best teams, managing just one other victory against a side currently in FIFA’s top 20 since 2019.

They are strong at home, where they are unbeaten in nine since losing to Scotland in 2020, but struggle when taking on the Spanish, who they have not beaten in five previous meetings, losing four.

Spain on a roll

A penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy in the semi-finals ended Spain’s Euro 2020 hopes, and since then they have been almost unstoppable, winning seven of their last nine games.

The only defeat came in the Nations League final against World Champions France, that coming after they gained revenge against Italy in the semis, beating them 2-1 at the San Siro.

Luis Enrique’s side have kept three clean sheets in winning four of their last five, plus they have lost just once away from home in 17 fixtures.

I predict that Spain will win this game, so that is my initial selection, but they do not tend to thrash teams, so a 2-1 victory is my correct score prediction.
